Price is only £8 and food is served from 9:00pm until 11:00pm only! Afterwards the tables will be cleared and the live bouzouki music will start till 3am!

WELCOME TO EUROVISION WEEK!
This year things are run a bit differently in the competition. Greece and Cyprus must pass through different semi-final rounds to make it to the big final on Saturday:
Tuesday 20/5 Semi-Final I (Greece) 8-10pm
Thursday 22/5 Semi-Final II (Cyprus) 8-10pm
Saturday 24/5 FINAL (hopefully both) 8-11pm)
BOUZOUKI BY NIGHT has kindly offered to show all three shows on their big screen projector. We’ll be watching the program from satellite NOVA TV (with the Greek commentators). The semi-finals are only shown on BBC3 (NOT BBC1) in the UK which isn’t available in freeview TV packages. Read the rest of this entry ?
A quick update on the coaches! All coaches for both days are now full. We were overwhelmed with students calling in to book places, but even with 5 normal buses and 2 double-decker buses for the two days, we still barely managed to cover demand! In collaboration with the Greater Manchester Cyprus Society (GMCS, we will be transporting 173 students on Holy Friday and 222 students on Holy Saturday!
Because of the huge number of people, we’d appreciate it if you came in timely fashion, 5-10 minutes before the set departure time. There will be people from the Hellenic Society committee in each stop to organise you per bus. Also please check the two documents below which have the full passenger lists for each bus. If you can memorize your bus number and passenger number it will make the boarding process run very smoothly!

Time again for another proud Hellenic Society tradition (and the president’s favourite): the Lamb spitroast and barbeque on Easter Sunday!
Like every year this takes place all day on Easter Sunday, with our kind host the Opal Gardens halls of residence in Victoria Park (Anson Road, M14 5EX), the biggest Greek residence in Manchester, with beautiful grass areas and green gardens.
This is an informal affair. The Hellenic Society is providing the spit (souvla), and the lamb, Opal Gardens is letting us use their barbeques. If you’d like to join us, all you have to do is drop us an email at hellenic@umsu.manchester.ac.uk or call Manolis at 07845680695, and show up on the day. The lamb is free for everyone, but you with your friends can also bring your own meat to barbeque, wine, beers, salads and red eggs! It’s completely informal, and the purpose is to get together, keep the Greek easter custom of the lamb and have a great feast in a huge outdoors table, with Greek music and dancing!
The event is open to anyone who would like to join, Greek or not. Because of noise and other security concerns, we will need to keep the number of people under a certain limit, and with invitation only, so make sure you contact us soon to start putting this together! The forecast is looking cloudy with some sun so far, let’s hope it stays good.
UPDATE (Friday): the weather forecast for sunday is VERY RAINY so that won’t let us have our lamb spitroast. We’ll still be buying a lamb, but cut up at the butchers to barbeque instead, and having our barbeques under some cover from the water.
Because of the rain again we’ll have to eat indoors in the common room, so again the numbers limited. If you’re definitely coming, reply on the event’s page.
We’ll start setting up around 12, so show up around then. Of course we can’t provide lamb for 30-40 people, so bring some food / raw meat /salad along (don’t overdo it on the food, you’ll be surprised how many people can eat from a 15-16 kilo lamb!). For further questions, post on the event’s page and i’ll answer questions there so everyone can see.
since people have been asking, you don’t have to be already a member of Hellenic Society (or Greek) to join in, everyone’s welcome.
Next Wednesday, the 16th of April, Manchester’s popular student Greek Rock band ‘EKS ARXIS’ returns for a live music night in Bouzouki By Night on Princess Street (opposite 5th Avenue).
EKS ARXIS are a 6-member band consisting of Greek and Greek-cypriot students living in the UK, and have existed in Manchester with different rosters for over 5 years now, covering songs from Greek Rock and Entexno (Ethnic/Folk) music.
Doors open at 9:30pm, and the live begins shortly after 10pm, going on until 2am! Entrance price is only £5.
